In our second IT OKC blog post, we’re naming the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon the “It” Event. Please share your story in comments and you’ll be registered for a chance to win a runhers t-shirt. Congratulations to all the participants and thanks for making the Memorial Marathon a special event.

On April 29th, 2012, 26,000 runners gathered at the starting line to kick off the 12th annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. After 168 seconds of silence, participants started down the long path toward the finish line as thousands of spectators lined the route to cheer them on. Runners competed in several categories including a memorial 5K, marathon relay, kids marathon, half marathon and a 26.2 mile full marathon.

Winners! Male winner was Jake Buhler from Edmond, OK with a time of 2:27:30. Female winner was Camille Herron from Warr Acres, OK with a course record time of 2:45:13. Psst, looks  like she’s comin for ya, Jake.

Runner #355, Rusty Montgomery, traveled from his home in Boulder, CO to be there with his father who lost a good friend in the Oklahoma City bombing. At 59, Rex Montgomery decided to add marathon running to his bucket list and this was his first. Rusty, an avid runner who also competed in  NYC, finished the marathon with a time of 3:34:23 but walked back to find his father so they could run the last 2 km together. Pictured below, Rex and Rusty wear matching blue, “In Memory of Steve Williams” shirts.
