In celebration of family time and summer fun, we’ve named Robbers Cave State Park as our “IT” Adventure in this week’s IT OKC blog! If you’ve been to the park we’d love for you to comment on your favorite park activity or memory.

Our own Gus Alfonzo and his daughter at Robbers Cave State Park!

Nestled in the San Bois mountains in Wilburton, Oklahoma, Robbers Cave State Park covers over 8,000 acres and is connected to 189 acres of cool lake water. In this age of cell phones, iPads, Kindles and other electronic devices vying for the attention of parents and kids alike, Robbers Cave State Park provides a place for families to decompress and reconnect, to each other.

In addition to hunting, hiking, equestrian trails and breathtaking views from the sandstone hills, three large bodies of water including Lake Carlton, Lake Wayne Wallace and Coon Creek Lake, provide endless opportunities for swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing and paddle boat rental. While touring the park, be sure to hike up and visit robbers cave, the legendary hideout for wild west outlaws, Belle Starr and Jesse James.

Whether you want to visit for an afternoon or spend the weekend enjoying the scenery, Robbers Cave State Park offers a variety of lodging options. RV hookups for road warriors, traditional camp sites, furnished cabins of all sizes, honeymoon cabins and even pet-friendly cabins can be reserved. You’ll also find two community rooms and scores of picnic tables to accommodate large groups including church functions, family reunions, etc.

For information on special Fourth of July celebration activities including a fireworks display and musical entertainment, visit the Robbers Cave State Park Facebook page.
